Many people speak highly of the health benefits of herbs found in plants, nuts, and seeds. One of these natural remedies is ginseng. Holistic practitioners have boasted of the benefits of ginseng for decades. Many herbalists also believe ginseng “reinforces the life force.” (3) It is also believed to reduce stress and lessen the burden of a hectic lifestyle.

The benefits of ginseng are backed by science. Scientific studies have shown ginseng has properties that are “healing and restorative.” (3) Ginseng is an “adaptogen,” which means it will help the body adapt to whichever type of stress or illness is detected by the immune system. (3)

Herbal healers reported that ginseng could help patients with cancer, heart disease, fatigue, high blood pressure, and Hepatitis C by decreasing their symptoms. (2) It has also been shown to improve metabolism.

There are several different types of ginseng. If you want to explore the positive effects of ginseng, it’s essential to know the features of each kind.

Korean Ginseng

Some believe this was the first type of ginseng to be discovered. People worldwide have sung its praises because it is said to have the most curative results. Korean ginseng is most suitable for the elderly, and its full effects are often felt within a few months. (1) It has a reputation for renewing the energy of your body’s cells by producing a warm sensation. (1,3)

American Ginseng

This type doesn’t get its name from the location where it grows. “American” is the name of its species. Unlike Korean ginseng, the American species provides a calm and cooling effect. People often say it helps revive them when they feel too tired. (3) It helps boost the immune system and control blood sugar. (1) Some people take it to prevent colds. (2)

Siberian Ginseng

This type is “not truly ginseng” and has the least amount of healing properties. However, those with chronic stress often find it helps them lower their stress level when used over time. Siberian ginseng can be used for long periods, and some believe it boosts the mental process. (1)

No matter what type of ginseng you choose, it will likely have a positive effect. Despite the benefits of ginseng, be sure not to use it in large amounts. Like any other good thing, it should be taken and enjoyed in moderation. (3)
