Turmeric: Health Benefits and How To Include It in Your Diet

Turmeric is a common spice that has many health benefits. Turmeric contains the chemical curcumin, responsible for the health benefits many people take turmeric for. Turmeric has been used as a holistic supplement for centuries. People who practice Chinese medicine have used turmeric for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Recent studies have been done to test what else turmeric can treat. So far, research supports taking it as a daily supplement for those who suffer from joint pain. [1]

The main health benefits of curcumin are its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The most common medicinal use for turmeric has been for treating inflammation. These anti-inflammatory properties have helped people treat arthritis. Studies show that even in different types of arthritis, turmeric has proven to be helpful in reducing the inflammation that is causing joint pain. Studies have been done to determine that turmeric has excellent potential to treat type 2 diabetes. Curcumin in turmeric can help with reducing blood sugar levels. How to include Turmeric in Your Diet

There is no recommended amount of turmeric for different medical factors. In recent trials, patients with diabetes have had success taking 12 grams per day, which is considered a higher dosage. [3] The medical reason for taking turmeric determines how much turmeric you should take per day. However, it is recommended not to take more than 2 tablespoons three times a day. Turmeric can be added to most meals. It is described as tasting earthy and is a popular spice in Indian cuisine. Some dishes include turmeric to add color, which is a great way to incorporate the recommended daily supplement.
